The establishment of MAL Grójecka 109 was a direct result of a participatory community process in the Ochota district of Warsaw. The initiative began with social consultations where residents expressed a need for an open, accessible space for local activities and integration. The city government and the Ośrodek Kultury Ochoty (OKO) responded by allocating the previously existing pavilion on Plac pod Skrzydłami for this purpose.
The space was officially opened as a Local Activity Center (MAL) on December 16, 2017, marking the start of its mission to foster neighbourly relations and provide a free, flexible venue for residents to realize their own ideas and initiatives.
